New Permalink

I added a new permalink to Chris Griffin's Big Bite of Blog. He is an Eville blogger too, and to top it off he used to go to Sig School! His blog has some pretty honest info...

I went to a faculty meeting at the high school. Given that there was a drug bust the 2nd day I was there, it was no surprise to hear the discussion about "hidden signs" that students are drug dealers.

Hmm...I kinda miss that stuff back at Reitz.

Ok, not really. But I do miss my friends back at Reitz. Hope to see you all sometime!

Holy...

Yahoo reports, from the state that brought us President Bush, Texas Man Charged for Using Stungun on Stepson.

SWEENY, Texas (Reuters) - Police arrested a Texas man on child abuse charges on Friday after he allegedly used a 100,000-volt stun gun to discipline his 8-year-old stepson for missing the school bus.

Moody, a stay-at-home father who quit his job as a truck driver this year, allegedly walked behind the child all the way to school on Monday and zapped him with the stun gun.

The device is sold as a self-defense tool and designed to incapacitate attackers with an electrical charge. Police said Moody's stun gun delivered a shock akin to a bad bee sting.

"The belt didn't work; this did. It hurts much less than the belt. I've whipped his ass so hard that it left marks. That just didn't send the message and this did," he told the paper.

Clad in a sleeveless T-shirt, two-tone sunglasses and a cap that read "Marriage: the Leading Cause of Divorce," Moody appeared on TV news shows holding a stun gun he purchased after police took the original one and a paddle he said he used on the boy so much that it cracked.

Investigators were delighted with his comments. "He's pretty well used the right of free speech here, didn't he? The news media helped and awful lot on this one," said Henson.

Not a Haiku: Shoutout to My English Class

Evil Project, Tcej orp live!
I hate the Bangala* Bible.
All the too in-depth imagery,
and voices numerous as the many conjuctions of silk in a spider's mist sprinkled web,
Kingsolver needs to retire.

But stronger than my hate of Bangala,
Is my teacher's command,
To do a 'creative project'
On Bangala.

What to do? Something easy.
Something so easy I could finish it in one day,
Or one night**,
Because that's probably how much time I'll have before it's due and I realize that.

RAHR!

That sucked. But it was an A.

*Bangala = Congolese for poisonwood, as in "The Poisonwood Bible"
**More specifically, 3 hours probably

Praise Ye Holy Fish!

Yahoo reports:

DETROIT (Reuters) - Holy mackerel!

A shark held with no male counterpart at Detroit's Belle Isle Aquarium for the past six years has produced three babies in what zoo officials are calling "virgin births."

"There's no male around and there hasn't been any male around for as long as we've had the sharks, and we've had them for over six years," Sweet said. Though the births in Detroit were thought to be extremely rare, Sweet said a bonnet head shark, also held without any male companion, reproduced in late 2001 at a zoo in Omaha, Nebraska.

Forbidden Thoughts about 9/11

Salon has a nice collection of emails talking about some American's deepest, most cruel/weird reactions to 9/11.

My husband and I were playing Jenga afterward. When the Jenga collapsed, I shouted "North Tower." Then the second round of the game, we shouted, "South Tower." Now we don't call it Jenga anymore. We call it North Tower. -- Marisa

Strange News

Loo to pop up, to drunks' relief

The UriLift, a stainless-steel cylinder that rises from the ground in two minutes and disappears just as quickly already has been well-received in one English town and will be arriving at two London hot spots later this month.

When the night life arrives, an officer standing within a few feet of the UriLift can activate the hydraulic motor by remote control. Three men have room to use the sleek device at the same time, and it is lighted, though it has no doors.

ThereĀ“s no need to worry about smell because the UriLift, with its automatic flushing, is connected to sewer mains for disposal of urine and flush water. No one has to empty those temporary plastic urinals that some towns place outside bars.

Iraq Talq

On the Signature Monitor:

For the first time since 9/11, Bush is acknowledging the need to convince allies, using solid evidence, to join the war on terror. Instead of just using strong rhetoric ("Axis of Evil", "Evil dictator", "evil spawn of Satan", etc.).

Or is he?

Rice

Yahoo reports that China has blocked access to .

An article posted on Web portal NetEase.com said Google was being blocked because searches could bring up links to pornography, content associated with the banned spiritual movement Falun Gong.

How insane is the CCP? Any properly motivated "subversive" could still access Google search results by using Yahoo--whose search engine is powered by Google--and is not blocked. But what makes the CCP's move have even less sanity is that this move further discourages Internet businesses from starting up in China. The Chinese market is huge, but the risk of being blocked by the CCP in a whimiscal decision is too great.

Let's all hope the CCP will be less restrictive under who? Under Hu.
